With female entrepreneurs being tipped as the key to economic recovery in the UK it is heartening to hear that GoJD member, Karen Dell’Armi, has been named the “Best Woman in Manufacturing” at the annual Welsh Women Mean Business Awards.

The awards recognise the business success and entrepreneurial talent of women who have succeeded in the management of SMEs across Wales, and congratulate those who have demonstrated the ability to convert business aspirations into reality.

On winning her category, Karen said: “I’m thrilled and surprised to have won this award. Since launching my company I have been working continuously to establish myself and build the brand and this award has served only to motivate me to continue to grow the business further.”

Following a successful ten year career in marketing, Karen launched the business, which specialises in contemporary jewellery using precious metals, predominantly sterling silver, single handedly in October 2007 having taken a career break to raise her two sons. Karen creates pieces with an emphasis on elegant sculptural form and tactile finishes.

Continued Karen: “When the time came for me to consider returning to work, I realised that I had never allowed myself to really follow my heart when it came to my career so decided to pursue my love for arts and design. Since launching, the business has gone from strength to strength and I am looking forward to developing the business and launching my latest range this spring.”

Sarah Cornelius-Price CEO of Shram events, said: “The Welsh Women Mean Business awards aim to reward and raise the profile of highly successful women who have made a real difference to business, whether that be by turning a great business idea into a reality, or developing an existing business into a thriving enterprise.  Ultimately, we aim to create role models to inspire budding female entrepreneurs.
