Wearing a black strapless party dress, pink peep-toe stilettos, and a stunning necklace featuring a one-carat Fancy Vivid diamond, the world's most expensive Barbie® (estimate: $300-000-500,000) is set to cross the auction block in a bid to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Designed head-to-toe by fine jewelry designer Stefano Canturi, this one-of-a-kind Barbie® is being offered by Christie's New York as a special item within its blockbuster Jewels: The New York Sale on October 20, 2010. The item will be auctioned without reserve and all profits from the sale will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
'BarbieTM by Stefano Canturi' wears a Canturi collar necklace, exemplifying Stefano Canturi's 'Cubism' style of arranging carré- and baguette-cut diamonds in his signature geometric pattern. Three carats of white diamonds comprise the dazzling necklace, which is centered on a one-carat emerald cut Fancy Vivid purplish-pink diamond (pictured at right), a registered tendered stone from the Australian Argyle mine. Collector demand for colored diamonds of this saturation and hue are on the rise, yielding auction prices in excess of $300,000 per carat.
Canturi was invited to create this special Barbie® after a successful collaboration with Mattel for Barbie® doll's 50th Anniversary celebration last year. With a new challenge to add to his artistic repertoire, the Australian designer spent four weeks designing the doll's frame, hair style, makeup, dress, shoes, nail polish, and of course, her exquisite jewels. Having created the world's most expensive Barbie®, Canturi then partnered with Christie's and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® to ensure the auction of this iconic doll will result in a significant and meaningful contribution to the many women who inspire him and for whom he designs.
