Guild member Ros Millar is one of 17 craftspeople who have been chosen to showcase their work in a fascinating and innovative exhibition from the London Design Festival 2011.

The seventeen first met through the Crafts Council’s Hothouse programme and have been hand picked as some of the most promising emerging talents in the UK – working in jewellery, wood, textiles, basketry, ceramics and glass.

'Portraits in the Making' is the first exhibition to emerge from the Hothouse programme and was inspired by the history of its venue, Pitzhanger Manor. Owned by Sir John Soane, the 19th century Neo-Classical architect, he described it as 'a sort of portrait' and used it as a place to display his collection of books, paintings, drawings, works of art and objects.

The artists challenged themselves to create, by reflecting on their own artistic journeys and how they relate to the concept of portraiture; fabricating objects that reflect a personality, relationship, place or experience. The fact that the makers come from many different disciplines reflects the eclectic nature of Sir John Soane's original collection and their pieces are exhibited across the house and gallery.

The exhibition is free to visit and runs until 12th November.
