Choosing an engagement ring is one of the biggest elements of a proposal, and customers are faced with vast choices. However, it seems now that trends are changing and the way consumers make these decisions is experiencing a shift.

With millennials now reaching the age where many are considering marriage, it is this generation that is leading the way when it comes to engagement ring shopping trends. This is down to a number of factors which include the ever improving technology and a growing social consciousness. The average millennial no longer wants to be average, they want something different.

Award-winning founder of the Hatton Garden based London Jewellery School, Jessica Rose, has recently launched a new online company, Jewellers Academy. Alongside the launch she has created a grant for jewellers to help support them in starting and growing their own jewellery businesses.

The London Jewellery School celebrated its 10th birthday on April 21st 2019, and is marking the occasion by revamping some of its much-loved diploma courses! (Plus, they’ve got a swanky new website and a birthday treat, too!)

I was lucky enough to be able to attend a jewellery wire wrapping workshop at Cooksongold on Saturday 18th May. This was the first workshop Cooksons had held on
a Saturday, which was much more convenient to attend as getting time off work or juggling family commitments during the week can be difficult. So well done to Cooksongold for the opportunity to join this workshop.

The Goldsmiths’ Company has awarded its 17th Young Designer Silversmith Award to Shaun Grace of UCA Rochester.
At a reception held at The Victoria & Albert Museum in London, a pair of stunning silver flower vases made by the winner of this year’s award, Shaun Grace, was presented to Mr Martin Roth, Director of the V&A Museum for the museum’s permanent collection.

In the run-up to the Brexit referendum, certain industry sectors were vocal about their position on the matter. Financial services and academic institutions, for example, were amongst the strongest supporters of “Remain”.

The jewellery industry, however, was conspicuous by its absence from the campaign trail, possibly an indication that its members were unclear about how they felt about it, but now that the result has been decided, like everybody else, it has to work out it will mean in real terms.
